NYC Pet-Friendly Things to Do
From upmarket grooming to outdoor parks to dog-friendly restaurants, here’s how to spend a day treating your pup on the East Side of Manhattan—because man’s best friend deserves a vacation too.
Pamper your pet: Canine Styles
Since 1959, “lifestyle brand” Canine Styles has offered grooming and luxury pet products to Manhattan’s Uptown dogs. Find toys, clothing, collars, leashes, beds, and carriers at one of three Manhattan locations (two on the Upper East Side, one Upper West). Its Master Groomers deliver consultation and styling from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm daily.
Brunch with your dog: Barking Dog
Pups aren’t allowed inside, but they can enjoy dog treats from outdoor patio tables at Barking Dog. The canine-themed restaurant chain serves pancakes, waffles, omelets, and wraps for you, and a dog water fountain and treat jar for your pet.
Let your dog off the leash: Peter Detmold Park
This park in Turtle Bay has a restored gazebo and Hudson River views. Sit on benches from the World’s Fair as your dog plays without a leash in the enclosed running space. Just a short walk from central Midtown, it’s the East Side’s best spot for letting the dogs roam free.
Get the red carpet treatment: Hotel 48LEX
Hotel 48LEX is happy to welcome your traveling canine companions. Simply let the hotel know that you’ll have a pet (or pets!) at least three days prior to arrival, and a dog bowl and cushy dog bed will be ready for your stay.
For safety reasons, we only accept dogs weighing 50 pounds and under, or two dogs with a combined weight of 75 pounds or less. The cost for having a pet stay with you is $100 per stay.
